Interview with Dale Moon - by Drum Dungeon
Dale Moon is a touring and recording member of the Travis Larson Band, an award-winning California-based rock fusion trio. An original member of the band, Moon appears on all of TLB's albums and concert DVDs. He's toured the US repeatedly from coast to coast (most recently with rock legends UFO), and has recorded with such luminaries as Victor Wooten and Steve Lukather. Sometimes polyrhythmic and technical, and sometimes stripped-down and muscular, his playing is intelligent, creative, and always serves the music. TLB releases include the CDs Travis Larson Band (1998), Suspension (2001), Burn Season (2004), Rate Of Change (2006), Rate of Change Live (2008), as well as the concert DVDs Rock Show (2001) and Rate of Change Live (2008).

Moon is also a dedicated instructor and clinician. "Days off" on the road are opportunities to squeeze in drum clinics or in-store appearances. When not touring or recording, he works one-on-one with students at the Drum Circuit, a Five Star drum shop in San Luis Obispo, California.

BACKGROUND: Dale first picked up sticks in the fifth grade as part of after-school band and orchestra programs, and continued with school jazz bands through high school and college. Outside of school, Moon began playing professionally at age seventeen in local and regional bands ranging in styles from country, rock, and jazz to hip-hop, reggae and ska, opening for acts as varied as Tammy Wynette, Blues Traveler, Toots and the Maytals, Lucky Dube’, and George Clinton. With TLB, which he joined in 1997, he’s shared bills with Bill Bruford, Buddy Miles, the Steve Morse Band, the Dixie Dregs, Ted Nugent and UFO, among others.

The band is currently touring in support of Rate Of Change Live, a live concert DVD and double CD.
